Across the bay .....

Another stunning day
We went down to Saundersfoot again
So spectacular after all that terrible weather
~
Looking out to Carmarthen Bay
(Please click on the photos to get a much better view)
~
Kayaks tied up safely in the harbout
High and dry on the low tide
Water draining through from the holding dock
The children know that summer is never far away .....

Saundersfoot looked spectacular .....

Saundersfoot looking spectacular in the sunshine today
~

Had a fabulous walk along the beach,
around the harbour
stopped for bacon sarnie and coffee in the warm sunshine
just what was needed after all that wind and rain
bliss!!
~
Hope you've managed to get out in the sun too.

What a Day! .....

As you know Tenby is usually tranquil and beautiful ...

When I got there this morning the tide was out and it looked calm ... ish
Then I got round to Town Beach,

It was very rough
The wind was howling
It was difficult to stand up
The sea looked very menacing
~
The town still looked calm
~
I hope you can see this video
I could hardly stand up
The wind kept battering me about
The noise of the sea and wind was tremendous
Then I met these delightful doggies
waiting faithfully for their mistress
She said they had enjoyed the sand, rain and wind
She was going to take them home for a hose down.
~
I felt totally battered
We have had a very rough day, along with so many others
Having the full force of the South Westerly gales - Up to Force 12
A wind of 108 mph recorded in North Wales
90,000 folk with electricity cut off
We were one of them for about 6 hours.
~
Things have calmed down a lot now
Still sounds a bit blustery and there may be more to come.
Hope you are all well battened down
~
My heart goes out to any of you suffering from flooding
That must be so awful
~
We have only had to light some candles and turn up the gas
~
Love to all and keep warm.

Rain, sun, gloom, rain, sun, gloom .....

(Some blue sky just in case you haven't seen it for a while!)
~
And so it  goes on.
~
We are decorating our lounge, so the place is in uproar.
Furniture spread about the room.
Carpets covered with old cloths
Bits of wallpaper and paste on the kitchen table (no pasting table!)
~
Paint brushes washing in the sink
Half empty paint pots on the draining board
~
At least I have managed to Freecycle a load of candles and oil burners,
also four bags of VHS tapes.
~
Spare room full of books, books and more books
I'm sure we'll Freecycle or charity shop lots of those as well.
~
On the web all the time trying to find suitable new curtains
The old ones now look disgusting - why is that?
when they looked completely o.k. last week!!!
~
Must get a warming stew on the gas hob.
Thank goodness for the gas hob by the way because we were
without electricity for five hours last night.
Good job we still had kept back some bog standard white candles.
~
At least we were in bed by 9.30!
~
Hope you haven't been disrupted by storm Brigid.

Just a few random holiday pics ...

We always love our winter visit to Fuerteventura and this year was no exception.
So - just a few random holiday pics for you .....
(click on them to see a larger view)

The lovely view from our favourite bunker at El Cotillo
A Great Grey Shrike - seen while on our horse excursion among the volcanoes.
They are seen in the UK but only very rarely
Fishing among the lagoons of El Cotillo
An old Corn mill
My Christmas Day pudding choice!
It didn't stay on my plate for very long!
Among the garra rufa fish!
~
They might do your feet good - but they do tickle!
The local supermarket everyday fish display.
Just take your pick.
It will automatically be cleaned and washed for you.

A few more tomorrow.

Pandora's Box

Do you remember this?
When I told you I was making a Christmas present?
Below is the finished quilt
I am thrilled to bits with it.
It is the first 'proper size' quilt I have made; the others were small ones.
It was a present to my son and daughter-in-law.
I think they snuggle under it in front of the telly,
cos I have since found out their bed is a 5 footer!!
(have to go extra large on the next one!!)

The reverse was this lovely batik patterned material from Doughty's
when they had a roadshow near us.
I only did very simple straight stitch machine quilting.
~
The post title is because that is the name of the quilt from the
'Jelly Roll Quilts' book by Pam & Nicky Lintott.
~
I just loved the colours in the jelly roll and am equally happy with the final result.
Someone told me I would get totally hooked, and I am.  I have several projects lined up
and already have a stash of fabric to keep me going for several years!!

Back again ...

Just back from our lovely winter holiday in the sun.
So sorry you have all been having such a horrendous time,
but hope things will begin to dry off very soon.
~
Please note the change of blog name - but it is still me!
~
~
Being young at heart and ForeverYoung, Other Half and I decided
to give ourselves a treat and go horse-riding!
~

~
Our combined ages are 155 years!! OH is 79 and I am 76!
We did very well and loved every minute.
~
Our one hour excursion around the volcanoes near Lajares in Fuerteventura
was led by Julie and Paul of FincaJulie .
They took great care of us and as a pensioner I was very pleased to wear a hat
labelled 'Junior Champion'.
~
What an experience. We would recommend it to anyone at any age.  The views were spectacular.
They also take more experienced riders on longer excursions and also on day trips to the
beaches with a trip to a restaurant as well.
Now we are returned I think I have got the 'trekking, hacking, excursion' bug
and have been trailing the internet for local riding schools.
Will let you know if I do any more.
As my walking is now quite limited, I was very emotionally moved to be able to
'walk' around the stark, fabulous volcanic countryside for an hour on 'Digby',
something I would never have been able to do otherwise.
~
You're never too old to try something new!

(P.S. Sorry about the odd changes in type etc. Blogger has been playing up a lot
and I have taken a long time to sort it out - and its still not quite right! - Hey Ho!)

Today I have been baking and sewing .....

Having received a free cookbook in the paper yesterday
I loved the look of Mary Berry's Mincemeat & Apple Caramel bake
~

~
We shall have it with our supper tonight with creme fraiche and/or yoghurt.
Can't wait,.
It looked so yummy I just had to try it - and it is! - Yumm, I mean!
Make it yourself and you will know why!
~
~
I have also been working very hard to finish the above quilting project.
Can't put up all the details yet, 'cos its a Christmas present.
I am thrilled to bits with it.
Will put up some pics when it is completed.
